| This week you will begin thinking about and discussing a topic you wish to investigate for the semester research project. The topic must concern a need for information that is currently not available, not accessible, or not clear and effective for its target audience. You will write a proposal (A4)seeking approval to pursue the topic, conduct primary and secondary research (A3) to gather information about the topic, present the findings (A7) of your research, and create a wiki (A8) that fills the need for the information. The proposal your group will create for this course is a research proposal, (A4), which seeks permission to research the need for an instructional artifact (some type of document) in a community of which you are a part - a campus organization, a special interest group or club, a neighborhood organization, a place of employment or group of co-workers, a school board, etc. The research you propose to carry out will demonstrate that the need exists and that you have a plan to address that need. Read Chapter 16 carefully, paying close attention to the elements for writing a Research Proposal (as opposed to a Goods-and-Services Proposal). The model at the end of the chapter is the one you should emulate. Your group will complete the assignment described in these instructions and will submit both group and self-evaluation forms for this assignment. To begin thinking about and choosing a topic, read the document attached to the bottom of this page. Discuss the ideas with your classmates on the discussion board and when you are ready, choose your topic and group members -3 students per group! |

External proposals can be further classified as solicited or unsolicited: that is, requested or not requested by the reader. The concept that links all proposals is that the writer must make it clear that the future benefits of carrying out the proposed activity will outweigh the costs. The proposal must demonstrate that the writer understands the reader's needs and is able and willing to fulfill the promises made in the proposal. Most proposals contain
